Client: Sika
Location: Brendale, QLD
Scope: Progressive replacement of cracked concrete pavement and damaged hardstand sections
Program: Staged works to support ongoing site operations
Specification: Concrete pavement replacement, level control and falls correction
About the Project
Sika identified opportunities to improve safety for staff, contractors and site visitors by replacing cracked and damaged sections of concrete hardstand at its Brendale manufacturing facility. The replacement works also supported safer movement of forklifts, trucks and other site equipment by improving pavement condition, surface transitions and drainage falls.
The works involved progressively replacing sections of concrete pavement while the facility continued to operate. This required close coordination between Sika’s operational team and Terazzo’s construction team, with site activities adjusted to accommodate the works and the works staged to minimise disruption to daily operations.
Challenges We Managed
• Live manufacturing environment: Works needed to be planned around staff, contractors, vehicle movements and ongoing site operations.
• Progressive replacement: Damaged sections were replaced in stages to maintain access and reduce operational downtime.
• Complex falls: Existing levels and drainage falls ran in different directions, requiring careful attention to how each section was set out and finished.
How Terazzo Solved Them
• Staged construction planning: Works were sequenced to allow Sika to continue operating while maintaining safe separation between construction zones and active work areas.
• Site coordination: Terazzo worked closely with Sika to coordinate access, timing and work areas around the needs of the facility.
• Level and fall control: Careful set-out, checking and finishing helped ensure new sections tied into surrounding pavements and achieved the required falls.
• Safety-focused delivery: Work areas were managed progressively to reduce risks for staff, contractors, vehicles and equipment during construction.
Outcome
The completed works provided Sika with safer, more reliable hardstand areas for staff, contractors, vehicles and site equipment.
Damaged and cracked sections were replaced with new concrete pavement, with careful attention to surface transitions, levels and drainage falls. The staged delivery approach allowed the facility to continue operating while the works were completed, reducing disruption and improving the long-term safety and usability of the hardstand areas.
